Stained Glass Optical Illusions

Price: $15 – $35 BUY NOW!

Today’s creations are a nod to my inner geek and an even larger salute to my husband’s inner geek.  He is so proud of these!   And so my stained glass optical illusion collection gets a little larger.  Stay posted:  I have another version of Escher’s waterfall almost done.

Things I like: Layers of Glass

Stained glass is much more dimensional and interesting when pieces of glass are layered on top of each other, like the way the petals are layered in this flower pendant.  I know this has been done but I’d like to experiment with it in ways I haven’t noticed before, such as with pieces of curved glass that project from a creation in different ways.  What if the upper flower petals weren’t only placed on top of the lower petals, but even placed at an angle causing the ends to pop up out of the window.  This could be really fun to experiment with on a large scale window.

Stained Glass Swirl Window

This stained glass window’s purpose is to celebrate my pursuit of curves and swirls, combined with my fondness of green and blue together.  I love the element of surprise and fun created by the little pops of green.   The green glass also shows a little sheen of blue Stained Glass Swirl Windowpearlescent from some angles, so the glass colours tie in together very well.  I find this window vibrant and energetic in colour and style, while at the same time soothing to the eye with it’s continuous flow of curves.

Things I like: Stained Glass Scenery Windows

4_galleon

I’ve been thinking about doing some scenery with stained glass lately.  Here are my random thoughts (in no specific order):

I love this painting with the interesting land shapes and the moon (sun?). Maybe someday I’ll create a stained glass scenery based on it.

When I was at my parent’s place earlier this month, I rowed the Tupperware dingy out into the ocean and did some sketches of the ocean scenery.  I’d like to see what they look like in stained glass, too.

Chris says I should do some scenery of the back yard or better yet, of the sunken garden at Butchart Gardens.

We thought it would be cool if my friend Damara does photography of a scenery, my friend Barb draws or paints the scenery and I create a stained glass from the photo/drawing/painting.  Then we could stand all three side by side.

Stained Glass Fused Blue Bird Vase

Price: $60 BUY NOW!

Stained Glass Fuse Vase

This vase is the results of my first time fusing glass.  I previously made this vase using solder only, but it was a bit of a pain in the neck to complete so I thought I’d try the design using fusing instead. The blue bird and black swirls are tack fused onto the white glass background (put in the kiln just hot enough that the two glass surfaces melt onto each other; then they are permanently connected).  Even with an engineering background so that I understand the science of it, I find fusing a bit magical.  Two completely separate pieces of glass end up becoming one forever.

I like this vase because each side is a different design, making this the perfect vase for a changing display. The black swirls are continuous, they flow from one side of the vase to the next, making this vase very graceful.

Dream Day – Winter Moon Stained Glass

This stained glass window is perfect (in my opinion).  It has a sense of quiet, solitude and mystery; and it is executed with clean lines, stunning colours and tree branches exactly how I like them.   Beautiful.
